About
If you find yourself wandering the vibrant streets of Brooklyn, make sure to stop by Bushniwa, a culinary gem nestled at 250 Varet St. This inviting restaurant, renowned for its delicious offerings, brings a delightful twist to traditional Japanese fare, especially for those in search of a comforting rice bowl or a fresh poke bowl.
Bushniwa is a place where simple elegance meets flavorful sophistication. With dishes that range from the savory Gyu Don — beef and onions simmered in a sweet sauce — to the exquisite Una Don, featuring a luscious fillet of grilled eel over rice, there’s something for everyone. The carefully curated lunch menu shines brightly, offering a selection of donburi that tantalizes the palate without breaking the bank, with prices starting at just $20.
But it's not just the donburi that shines. The well-balanced offerings extend to a variety of sides including Grilled Asparagus and Sautéed Assorted Mushrooms, both priced at $8. Each side is crafted to complement the main dishes, enhancing the overall dining experience.
Customer feedback also highlights the friendly atmosphere and attentive service. One reviewer noted, “The quality of sushi here was better than expected,” reflecting the excellent balance of quality and price that Bushniwa manages to uphold. The welcoming decor and a lively vibe make it perfect for casual dining or a cozy date night.
Beverage-wise, you can pair your meal with classic options like Coca-Cola or opt for something unique during the season, like their house-made sangria — rumored to be a crowd favorite.
As the owner chef often introduces off-menu surprises like monkfish liver in season, there is always something new to explore. This commitment to freshness and quality is clear in reviews that rave about dishes like pork gyoza and vegetable gyoza, which have received high praise as some of the best offerings on the menu.
In conclusion, for anyone craving a fulfilling meal that combines quality, affordability, and a welcoming atmosphere, Bushniwa is undoubtedly a prime choice in Brooklyn. Whether you are a local or just passing through, this eatery promises an experience worth repeating.
“ For sushi at a reasonable price in bushwick this is the spot. Usually do delivery but decide to go in. Vibes are good and decor definitely gives you date night vibes. Sushi is good but wouldn’t call it the best. The appetizers are good, we like the chicken and other items, not as big of fan of the fish dishes. The sushi plate was good, with decent variety. The greens tea tiramisu was worth order for sure. Bathroom was clean, staff was friendly. ”
“ Would not suggest any sushi pieces. The pork gyoza, vegetable gyoza and short rib negimaki were incredible the sangria was very unique. ”
“ You may think this is a normal take away sushi restaurant, and it is but also so much more. The chef owner regularly brings in off menu items like monkfish liver (in season) and grilled freshwater eels. Both of which are phenomenal. One of the few reasonably priced lunch spots in the neighborhood. Service is also next to none. Five stars;) ”
“ Nice service, and the nigiri was very good quality. The decor is pleasant as well. The rolls were a little heavy for me but it’s mostly personal preference. ”
“ The quality of sushi here was better than expected. They give you a good number of sushi and the quality is great. I don’t mind coming back here. Is a great non omakase place for sushi. ”

“ This is a hidden gem in the neighborhood! The food is so delicious and creative! The vibe is also very chic. I love all the all salmon roll. It’s unlike any sushi roll I’ve had. It’s beautiful, delicious with a crunchy little touch! And the nameko mushroom miso soup is so tasty!! ”
